AN INFINITE CARNIVAL

This was our 2006 attempt at the same contest that we made Man Cop for. I say attempt for a number of reasons. First and foremost, our given genre was “infomercial.” I’m not sure I can convey the madness that ensued when Misha and I opened the envelop and found out that as aspiring young, creative people, our talents were to be wasted making something of this nature. Could any genre be more devoid of the film-making elements that directors, actors, camera-operators, musicians and every other creative individual would probably like to exercise?

Not only that, but at the end of the contest, the file wouldn’t export to DV, so the ultimate prank was that we didn’t even get to participate at all. No matter though. What we made here was for us, and subsequently, for you. This was not some perfect trophy to show off to the judges for the sole purpose of winning, this was about having fun and making something that we loved. And I have to say, I think we accomplished that quite well.

Just as with Man Cop, this was a learning experience. We ended up spending about 7 hours coming up with ideas, and then immediately throwing everything away and starting fresh. Despite that, we finished shooting about 6 hours sooner than we did with Man Cop. I spent over 20 hours straight editing, and learning all sorts of new techniques.
